SC moved to bring back ‘Rajiv money’

New Delhi, Oct 31, DHNS An advocate on Monday filed a PIL in the Supreme Court seeking direction to UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi to authorise him to bring back 8.06 billion Swiss franc (about Rs 4.56 lakh crore), allegedly stashed away in a Swiss bank account by former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi in 1989.
The petitioner, Manohar Lal Sharma, claimed that the money was lying dormant in the Swiss bank and, if unclaimed, would go to the Swiss government. Sharma based his information on Swiss magazines “SI 46/1991 - Fluchtgelder - Seiten 40/41,” and  “SI 46/1991— flight capital—pages 40/41,” which he said carried details of the amount held by politicians of different countries, including Rajiv Gandhi. He said the journals disclosed a list of politician-account holders along with their photos. One of the accounts belonged to the late Gandhi, having a balance of Swiss franc 2.5 billion since 1989, which had grown to 8.06 billion Swiss franc.
